I grew up in a small town in Michigan, but at heart I'm a city woman. I've been in New York since 1999, and now it's home. Before I arrived here, I moved myself around the country, settling briefly in California and then Nashville, Tennessee. As citified as I am, I remain a dyed-in-the-wool do-it-herself-er; I refinished my drawing table and pigeonhole cupboard myself, and I sew a lot of my own clothing, including my wedding gown.

I believe in clean, simple design that conveys meaning clearly. A designer can photoshop a set of images together in many lovely ways, but too often this creates confusion instead of imparting information. The same goes for photography; I aim to highlight one or two concepts so that the viewer can slow down, relax, meditate.

When I take a portrait, I want to show not just composition and exposure, but also the essence of the person. My head shots are more than stylized images of faces; they stand out.

Besides being a photographer and graphic artist, I am always a reader and often a writer. I've been published in Venus magazine and at the former music.com (2000).

"Designer" has been one of my labels since 1994; "photographer" joined it in 1996. I'd be hard pressed to give either of them up.
